OMNIBUS BILL ON DUAL CITIZENSHIP

Zonny is also one of the initiators who lobbied the passage of a law on dual citizenship. The House bill was introduced by House speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr., Rep. Leonardo Perez and Rep. Manuel Sanchez.

The law has fulfilled former president Ramos’ promise to study the feasibility of dual citizenship as well as to respond to the clamor of most of the Filipinos overseas who want to remain as Filipino citizens even though they have obtained citizenship under the laws of another country. DEFENDING THE FILIPINO DIGNITY

Commissioner Zonny Lerum is an instrumental proponent of Resolution 351 declaring Howard Stern as “Persona Non-Grata,” on November 17, 1992. The resolution was authored by Rizal Representative Manuel R. Sanchez in the Philippine Congress.

In a report printed in The Manila Standard (November 11, 1992):

“Rep. Manuel Sanchez said New York-based practicing architect Zonny Lerum who is the national vice chairman of Congress of Filipino-American Citizens in the US told him that thousands of Filipinos from tri-state area rallied in front of 9 Broadcast Plaza in Secaucus, New Jersey to voice their condemnation of Stern.

Lerum was among the thirteen (13) Filipino leaders who filed a $65-million class suit against Stern before the Supreme Court of the City of New York.” Click for more
